Do dreams sound too airy-fairy for you? Are you a hard-core business person who believes that dreams are not for you? Then, let’s take this to the next level. In a business or leadership setting, your dreams of the future and what you want your business to look like are stated in terms of “Vision.” In my blog,” Becoming a Leader – Leadership Skill #1 Creating A Vision”, I talk about the critical nature of having a vision to being a leader.

In reality, there is no difference between having a dream or having a vision for your business. In order for you to realize the future you want, it requires three basic elements:

  • Vision
  • Structure
  • Support

It is still necessary to use feelings and emotions to bring that vision/dream to life. Without involving all five senses in the description of the vision/dream, you will never achieve it. It will always be something to do when you get “around to it.” It is a vision around which the team will rally, and the leader paints the picture for all to follow.

This is the first step in both the Dare2Dream workshop and the upcoming Dare2Lead program. The next steps in both programs revolve around strategic planning and provide the structure on how this vision/dream will come to be fulfilled. Both require a course to be charted with clear milestones and activities to bring the future into focus.

This vision/dream must be top priority in your life. Every day activities need to be in your calendar that will move the vision forward. It could be just 10-15 minutes a day. For example, I am thinking of using some Far Side cartoons in the Dare2Dream workshop presentation. I need permission to use them. In my calendar last week, I had a time slot of about 15 minutes for researching this and finding out how to make it happen. I checked this off my list and now on to actually writing to ask for permission and what the cost might be.

Breaking tasks into bite sized pieces makes it easier to accomplish the strategic plan. Finally, when the naysayers strike or life gets in the way, your support system is what keeps you on track. Without them, all the vision and structure in the world will not make the realizing of a dream or a vision any easier. These are your community of emergency contacts when all the world is falling down around your ears or you just need a kick in the …to get your feet moving.

All three of these aspects are the foundation of the Dare2Dream workshop. If you have a
dream or a vision that you don’t want to see become just a wish, then join me! Something else I have learned as a business woman is to ask for what you want. If you loved what you just read, this content is not for free. As a form of payment, I am asking you simply to comment or share this on Facebook or tweet about it on Twitter.
